Taking into Account the Eddy Density on Analysis of Underwater Glider Motion

Mesoscale eddies play an important role in regulating the global ocean ecosystem and climate variability. However, few studies have been found to focus on survey of underwater gliders (UGs) motion performance inside mesoscale eddies. The dynamic model UG considering eddy density is established predict its eddy. Ignoring effect vertical velocity UG, simulation results experimental data are compared verify derived model. From analysis performance, larger at 400∼940 m depth than that a 0∼400 ascent. Considering structures parameters within eddies, climbing profiles chosen as available samples capture better. error caused by mainly occurs near thermocline. Moreover, there stronger influence ascent descent. show differences “Petrel II” descent ascent, they provide sampling suggestion for application UGs observation.
